The Game Story:
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Feb. 22, 2011) – Four players each scored three goals apiece to pace No. 1 C.W. Post over Mesa State, 21-3, in non-conference men’s lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon on Grand Canyon Field.

C.W. Post concludes its Arizona trip with a perfect 3-0 record while Mesa State remains winless at 0-2.

Senior attackers Vito Minerva (Nesconset, N.Y.), Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and juniors Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) and Jason Cranmer (Hicksville, N.Y.) all registered hat tricks in the game for the Pioneers. Minerva also recorded an assist to lead the way with four points.

C.W. Post quickly got to work in the first quarter and scored six unanswered goals, including two from Coric and junior Keith Rodriguez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.).

The Pioneers continued their scoring blitz in the second quarter with six more unmatched goals to take a 12-0 lead at the half. Minerva and Plompen both scored two goals in the second.

At the half, the Pioneers were outshooting the Mavericks by a 25-2 count and were 11-for-14 on face-offs.

The Mavericks got on the board in the third quarter with one goal from Dakota Klossner at 13:39. Klossner would later score his second goal in the fourth quarter. The Pioneers got offensive help from Tom Giordano (Garden City, N.Y.), Chris Ruhlig (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), Owen Campbell (Massapequa, N.Y.), Cranmer and Minerva.

The fourth quarter saw a little more hustle out of the Mavericks as they fought to score two goals against the Pioneers. Junior Kyle Riegel (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals for C.W. Post and freshman Bernabo Octovio (Mahopac, N.Y.) tallied a goal.

The Pioneers finished the game outshooting the Mavericks, 51-21, and held a 55-24 advantage on ground balls.

Senior goalkeeper Mike Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made one stop in goal for the win. Senior Nick Foote (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Kyle Siegel (Montauk, N.Y.) also played a quarter in goal in the second half. In addition, senior midfielder Ronnie Irving (Glen Head, N.Y.) was 10-for-11 on face-offs.

Max Freter started in goal for the Mavericks and made seven saves in goal. Brad Brandenburg started the second half and made 11 stops.

C.W. Post returns to action on Saturday when it hosts ECC foe, Chestnut Hill, at 11 a.m. on Hickox Field.
