The Game Story:
ROME -- Lindenwood University outscored Shorter 7-1 in the third period en route to a 14-4 victory over the Hawks in non-league men's lacrosse action at Ben Brady Field on Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops Shorter to 2-3 on the season and also ends the Hawks' four-game winning streak on Ben Brady. Shorter had never lost at home, but couldn't overcome a difficult third quarter that essentially put the game out of reach.

The Lions (2-0) led 4-1 at halftime and got a Joe Roy goal to go up 5-1 at the 7:46 mark of the third quarter. On that scoring play, Shorter was whistled for an illegal body check to the head, putting Lindenwood man-up for the next three minutes. The Lions took full advantage, getting goals from Greg Cameron, Andrew Peterson and Jordan McKay during the power play to extend their lead to 8-1 with 5:29 remaining in the third.

Shorter's Matthew Kristiansen broke Lindenwood's string of six straight goals with 1:08 left in the third period to cut Shorter's deficit to 10-2, but the Lions answered with three straight strikes, two of which came from Andrew Szczepan, to go up 11 early in the fourth quarter.

Kristiansen and Kyle Van Kauwenberg scored two goals apiece for Shorter, which was outshot 54-19 and won just 8 of 21 faceoffs. Lindenwood held a 55-26 advantage in ground balls -- 32-11 after halftime as Shorter wore down during that man-down stretch in the third quarter.

Erik Carson made 17 stops in goal for Shorter. He also picked up a team-high five ground balls.
