March 20, 2012
The Game Story:
LBANY – The College of Saint Rose made the most of its inaugural home game by running past Dominican 18-7 tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. In the process, the Golden Knights (3-2) ran their win streak to three games after dropping their first two to a pair of top-10 opponents.

Sophomore attackman Brett McAuliffe and freshman attackman Kevin Fleming each scored four goals and collected an assist, while junior midfielder Rich Bamberger wound up with three goals and a pair of assists to lead the Saint Rose attack. Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Longo, who entered the game fourth nationally with 14.75 saves per-game, was called upon to turn away eight threats on-target.

The Golden Knights never trailed and scored four unanswered goals that helped transform a 2-2 tie into a 7-3 halftime lead. They then completely broke open an 11-6 game by scoring seven straight goals throughout the opening 7:30 of the fourth quarter, before the Chargers (0-3) added a perfunctory strike with 6:59 showing on the clock.

Saint Rose outshot Dominican by a 46-23 margin, won 22 of 29 faceoffs, and was successful on all but one of its 17 clearing opportunities.

McAuliffe set the tone by scoring on the Golden Knights first foray into the offensive zone with a mere 36 seconds elapsed. Five minutes later, Bamberger finished a feed from freshman midfielder Alex Schiponi to make it 3-2 and the Golden Knights never trailed again. Freshman midfielder Kris Miller scored unassisted in the opening 45 seconds of the third quarter for what proved to be the game-winner.

Miller and freshman attackman Colin Sorber wound up with two goals apiece; while senior midfielder Joe Pompo, freshman midfielders Jake Thorp and Colby Reagan had one each. Miller also set up a pair of strikes as did freshman attackman Evan Helming.

Sophomore attackman Chris Delaney finished with three goals and sophomore midfielder Thomas Dertinger added a pair to lead Dominican.

Saint Rose is now scheduled to return home Sunday when Merrimack arrives in the Capital Region. Game time is 4:30 pm at Sullivan Field. Dominican on the other hand has a 1:00 pm date Saturday at Molloy College on Long island.
