Saint Rose vs. Roberts Wesleyan

The Game Story:
ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose scored 46 seconds into the game and added five more unanswered goals in the first quarter en route to a 15-7 victory against Roberts Wesleyan this afternoon at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (5-4) outshot the Raiders (2-6) by a 47-31 margin, including a 29-10 differential in the first half, and had only 16 turnovers as opposed to 32 by Roberts Wesleyan.

Sophomore attackman Brett McAuliffe scored five of his six goals before halftime to lead Saint Rose, which has now won five of its last seven. Freshman attackman Kevin Fleming finished with four goals and three assists, senior midfielder Joe Pompo had a goal and three helpers, and freshman midfielder Kris Miller wound up with two strikes and an assist to help the Golden Knights cause.

Freshman attackman Evan Helming and freshman midfielder Ryan McFee also found the back of the net.

Meanwhile, freshman midfielder David Smith scored three times and freshman attackman Felix DeClercq added a pair of goals to lead Roberts Wesleyan.

Pompo struck first for Saint Rose and then set up Miller and McAuliffe to make it 3-0 Golden Knights before the game was four minutes old. Saint Rose added three more in the first quarter and led by as much as 11-1 after Fleming scored unassisted with 2:42 remaining until halftime.

The Raiders then scored four straight times throughout the final minute of the second quarter and the opening six minutes of the third to make it an 11-5 game. Fleming then scored twice within a three minute span for the Golden Knights to put an end to any thought of a comeback.

Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Longo recorded five saves in 51:01 of action for Saint Rose, while sophomore Matt Hamilton was called upon to make 16 saves during the entire game for the Raiders.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return to action Tuesday with a 4:00 pm date at 10th ranked Saint Anselm in Manchester, NH. Meanwhile, Roberts Wesleyan has a 4:00 pm game Wednesday at Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY.
