| ALFRED, NY - Junior attack Lee Austin (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) scored five goals to lead Hartwick College to a 15-4 win over Alfred University in the Empire 8 conference opener for both teams at Merrill Field on Saturday afternoon. Hartwick jumped out to a 5-2 first period lead as Austin and Pat McCormack (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) each scored pair of goals. Hartwick led 8-3 at the half, then scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter to put the game totally out of reach for the Saxons (1-3, 0-1 E8). Hartwick got 10 saves from junior goalie Jason Fautas (Sachem/Holtsville, N.Y.), as the Hawks won their second straight game after starting the season with four losses. Austin finished with seven points on five goals and two assists. Brian Miller (Acton-Boxborough/Acton, Mass) added three goals and two assists, and Mike Debrossy (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.) and McCormack each netted a pair of goals. Hartwick will be back in action on Wednesday night, playing at Empire 8 rival Utica at 7:00 p.m. |
