Alfred vs. Ithaca

The Game Story:
ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team lost to seventh ranked Ithaca College 14-8 Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field.

Alfred (5-2, 2-2 Empire 8) got off to a quick start and led 4-3 at the end of the first quarter due to strong defense and a pressured attack. But after being blanked by Ithaca’s defense in the second and the first part of the third, AU scored, but not before Ithaca notch six unanswered goals. In the forth, Alfred showed signs of mounting a comeback but Ithaca’s lead proved to be too much.

Senior attack David Vail (Mt. Lakes, NJ/Mt. Lakes) led AU in points with four, scoring one goal and notching three assists. Senior attack Dylan Macro (Camillus/West Genesee) and freshman midfielder Andy German (Wayne, PA/Radnor), both scored three points, with Marco having three goals and German recording one goal and two assists. Senior midfielder Anthony Fiorelli (Endicott/Union Endicott) also had three points, notching two goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Carlo DiRisio (Prattsburgh/Penn Yan) got in the action and contributed one goal.

Freshman Chris Wszalek (West Seneca/West Seneca) played all 60 minutes in goal for AU and collected six saves.

Ithaca College (9-1, 3-0 Empire 8) was led by Jeff Slack who had three goals and two assists, while Matt Casey had one goal and four assists. Ithaca’s Dennis Butler played all 60:00 minutes in goal and collected 12 saves.

The Saxons are in action next when they travel to Nazareth on Wednesday, April 14 for a 4:00 p.m. game.
