The Game Story:
AU menís lacrosse team defeats visiting Medaille, 19-6
ALFRED, NY -- The Alfred University men's lacrosse team answered visiting Medaille Collegeís game-opening goal with six unanswered tallies en route to a 19-6 victory Wednesday afternoon at Merrill Field.

Medailleís Kevin Pollinger scored less than a minute into the game to give Medaille its only lead. AU senior midfielder Jarrett Moffitt (Elmira, NY/Corning West) tied the game up less than two minutes later and junior attack Jeremy Florence (Unionville, PA/Unionville) gave AU the lead for good with 11:23 left in the opening quarter.

The Saxons (3-1, 0-0 Empire 8) would score the next four goals seven of the next eight to take a 9-2 halftime lead. Alfred put the game away with eight unanswered goals in the third and fourth periods. Senior attack Jeff Andrews (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) had a game-high eight points on three goals and five assists to pace the Saxons. Moffitt finished with a game-high four goals to go with one assists, while junior midfielder Andy Haynes Rockford, MI/Rockford) added three goals and a pair of assists.

Florence, junior attack Ben Coburn (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), freshman attack James Lang (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and senior attack Andy Aylward (Oswego, NY/Oswego) each scored two goals, with Coburn adding one assist. Freshman midfielder Mike Russo (Mattydale, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored one goal for AU.

Pollinger and Brad Gurbacki each scored two goals for Medaille (0-3), with Matt Walker and Jeff Zacharias each adding one score. Russell Allen had an assist for the Mustangs.

Junior Erick Goins (Colden, NY/St. Francis) played the first half in goal for AU and made two saves while allowing a pair of goals. Senior Drew Foster (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) played 26:37 of the third and fourth quarters and allowed two goals while making four saves. Junior Jamie Waite (Elmira, NY/Elmira Notre Dame) played the final 3:23 and allowed two late goals.

Ben Dlugosh went the distance in goal for Medaille, making 12 saves.

AU is in action next on Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m., when the Saxons play their Empire 8 Conference opener at Hartwick.
