|The Game Story:|
|ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team lost to visiting Brockport, 11-10 in overtime, Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field, in the season opener for both teams.|
Brockport’s Adam Drypolcher netted the unassisted game-winner with 2:17 left in overtime, as the Golden Eagles overcame a tying goal by Alfred junior attackman Marc Zoyhofski (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) with 33 seconds left in regulation. Drypolcher and Zoyhofski each finished the contest with four goals, and Zoyhofski added a pair of assists.
Brockport netted the game’s first goal, with Brad Cook scoring 1:44 in. After Zoyhofski tied it on an assist from junior midfielder Joe Gibbs (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) with 9:57 left in the first, Brockport answered with a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead four minutes into the second. The teams exchanged goals before AU sophomore attack Paul Eaton (Buffalo, NY/St. Francis) scored with 1:47 left in the second and Brockport led 4-3 at the half.
The visitors twice pushed their lead to three in the third period — 6-3 with 11:35 left and 7-4 with 10:58 left — before AU scored three unanswered to tie it at 7-7 on Zoyhofski’s third goal of the contest with three seconds left in the period. The Saxons took their first lead of the game with 9:12 left in the fourth on Eaton’s unassisted goal. Brockport then scored three straight to take a 10-8 lead with 2:37 left, but Eaton scored with 1:54 remaining to draw AU within one and Zoyhofski knotted it up 1:21 later.
The Saxons killed 58 seconds of a Brockport power play to start the overtime period and had one possession in Brockport’s end of the field, but could not get a scoring opportunity before Drypolcher won it for the Golden Eagles.
