The Game Story:
Menís lacrosse falls to St. John Fisher 5-3
ALFRED, NY ó The Alfred University menís lacrosse team came up short against visiting conference foe St. John Fisher College, 5-3 Saturday afternoon on Merrill Field.

St. John Fishersí Nick Savine, in his first minute of play, had an immediate impact, putting Fisher on top 1-0 with three minutes left in the second frame. Alfred (3-5, 1-4 Empire 8) trailed at the half 1-0 and didnít get on the board until 10 minutes into the third. Freshman midfielder Justin Kieffer (Middletown, NY/Middletown) scored on the Saxons power play assisted by senior midfielder Jeremy Florence (Unionville, PA/Unionville) to narrow the deficit 2-1.

The Cardinals received two third period with goals by Dave Malone (5:30) and Mike Cortina (3:45) to increase their lead 4-1. The Saxons would not go away quietly, as freshman attack Sean Murray (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) netted his first goal of the contest off a pass from Florence. Freshman attack Marc Zoyhofski (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) brought the Saxons to with in one (4-3) with seconds left in the third.

The fourth quarter played out much like the first half with St. John Fisher scoring the quarterís lone goal. Malone scored 10 minutes into the period off teammate Jeff Priceís second assist.

AU freshman Adam Schutz (Geneva, NY/Geneva) made 19 saves in goal for Alfred. Cardinal goalie Jon Cortina allowed three goals and made 11 saves.

Alfred is in action next on Wednesday, April 16, at 4:00 p.m. at Nazareth.
