| ALFRED, NY- The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team defeated visiting Wells College, 25-4, Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field. Freshman midfielder Justin Kieffer (Middletown, NY/Middletown) and freshman attack Matt Leslie (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) each scored five goals and freshman attack Marc Zoyhofski (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) had five assists for the Saxons (5-7, 2-6 Empire 8), who outshot the visitors 77-13 and held a 69-37 advantage in groundballs. Sophomore midfielder Mark Pincelli (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) had four goals and senior midfielders Andy Haynes (Rockford, MI/Rockford) and Jeremy Florence (Unionville, PA/Unionville) and senior attack Ben Coburn (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each had three. Haynes also assisted on four goals and finished with a team-high nine points. Ryan Zaleski scored two goals and Kylan Hallett and Joshua Mitchell each scored one for Wells. AU freshman goalie Adam Schutz (Geneva, NY/Geneva) made seven saves, while Wells netminder Thomas Costigan stopped 23 shots. Alfred is in action next on Friday, May 2, at 4 p.m. at home against Medaille. |
