Desales vs. Eastern
March 21, 2009
The Game Story:
The Eastern University men's lacrosse team entered this afternoon's MAC contest at DeSales on a two game winning streak.
The Eagles gave up two goals in the first 100 seconds of the game and those two minutes wound up being the difference as the the host Bulldogs (2-4 2-0) held on for the 7-6 win.

DeSales increased its advantage to 3-0 on a transition goal ten minutes into the game. The Eagles began to grab for momentum as the first quarter drew to a close as Michael Hofmeister set up Matt Wagner for a pair of goals to cut the Bulldog lead to 3-2.

Pat Dempsey connected for his first of the year on a pass from Nick Mandia to tie the score at three midway through the second, but DeSales drew ahead with a man up goal in the waning seconds of the half. The first half was fairly even in almost all statistical categories, but DeSales held a 4-3 edge in the only one that mattered.

Eastern grabbed the advantage with two goals to start the third. Michael Ryan picked up his 11th of the year, and Wagner put away his third of the day and 12th of the year, but the hosts answered with three straight goals to take a 7-5 lead into the final period.

Ryan set up Mandia for the only goal of the fourth period, but the Eagles were unable to find the tying goal in the nearly nine minutes after that. Eastern Head Coach Brandon Childs was disappointed with his team's focus at the outset of the game, but credited DeSales with executing their game plan. "DeSales played a tough physical game without taking bad penalties. Our defense six against six was very good after the first two minutes, but those were costly two minutes."

The Eagles return home next week for a pair of tough Conference games against FDU-Florham and Lycoming.
