Desales vs. Lycoming

The Game Story:
Center Valley, PA, (March 18, 2006) The DeSales University mens lacrosse team suffered its third straight loss to start the season falling to Lycoming College, 12-5, in the first MAC Conference game of the season for both teams on a cold Saturday afternoon in Center Valley, PA.

Lycoming (1-2, 1-0 MAC) used a balanced attack that saw the Warriors score three times in each of the four periods to secure the win. DSU (0-3, 0-1 MAC) was within one goal, 3-2, after the first period but failed to score in the second to trail, 6-2, at the half. LCs lead was pushed to 8-2 to start the third period and DSU was never able to recover.

The Bulldogs did hold an advantage in both shots (40-34) and ground balls (45-37) but Matt Lyons made 11 saves to just seven for junior Ben Conroy (Easton, PA/Moravian Academy) in between the pipes.

Leading the scoring attack for DeSales was sophomore Dan Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) with two goals. Freshmen Danny Larkin (Holladay, UT/Olympus) and Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) also scored once and junior Jon-Erik Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) scored his first goal of the season in the loss. D. Larkin, freshman Ricky Larkin (Holladay, UT/Olympus) and freshman Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) each added an assist for the Bulldogs.

The Warriors were led by James Cusick with six goals and two assists. Thomas Nairn totaled four goals and an assist and Matt Lando had one goal and four assists to round out the scoring leaders for Lycoming.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, March 25th as they travel to Susquehanna University for a MAC Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
