Desales vs. Moravian

The Game Story:
Center Valley, PA (March 18, 2009) Senior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) became the all-time leader in assists at DeSales University with three helpers on Wednesday afternoon but the Bulldogs were not as successful on the scoreboard falling to cross-town rival Moravian College, 13-11, in a non-conference game.

Brancaccio totaled three goals and three assists giving him 88 assists in his career as he moves past Brian Kuttler for the all-time lead at DeSales. Kuttler had held the record with 86 career assists.

The Bulldogs (1-4 overall) fell behind early to the Greyhounds (2-5 overall) and were never able to fully recover in the loss. After taking a 4-3 lead with a goal at the buzzer to end the first period, DSU was held scoreless over the entire second period and Moravian took a commanding 7-4 lead at the break.

In the second half, DeSales fought back and tied the game three times in the fourth quarter but every time MC had the answer and each time the answer came from Christopher Danni who scored five goals in the game but three in the fourth period all after the Bulldogs had tied the game and looked to take control. His final goal came at the 4:54 mark and proved to be the game-winner.

Brancaccio led the Bulldogs with three goals and three assists in the win, while freshman Michael Bassani (Califon, NY/Voorhees) also scored three goals. Fellow freshman Jeff Cook (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) scored twice and added an assist, and senior Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) also scored two goals. Junior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) tallied one goal and one assist and junior Dan Quinn (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) rounded out the scoring with one assist.

Walker picked up a team-high six ground balls and won 14-of-23 face-offs and junior Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) made 13 saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday when they return to MAC Conference action when they host Eastern University in an MAC game beginning at 1:00 pm.
