Jeffs Open Season With 13-4 Rout Over Kenyon

ORLANDO, FL - The Amherst College menís lacrosse team opened its season with a 13-4 rout over non-conference foe Kenyon College in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday. Amherst first-year attackman Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) paced the Jeffs with three goals and an assist, while junior attackman Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN) netted two goals and dished out three assists, and junior netminder Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) collected 18 saves.

The Jeffs raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. They tacked on four more goals before the half and cruised through the third and fourth periods in the lopsided win. Amherst junior attackman Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) found the net once and dealt two assists in the victory, and classmate Joaquin Walker (Denver, CO) had a goal and an assist as well. Also scoring for the Jeffs were senior co-captains Mike Allison (W. Nyack, NY) and Alexei Kudla (Bethesda, MD), fellow senior Craig McBeth (Wyckoff, NJ), junior midfielder Colby Griffith (Lexington, MA) and first-years Rob Madden (New Haven, CT) and Chris Hofmann (New Canaan, CT).

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 1 p.m. against Keene State College in Clermont, Florida.
