|BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Babson College scored five unanswered goals in the first quarter and never looked back as the Beavers defeated visiting Clark University, 20-2, in a Pilgrim League men’s lacrosse contest on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Babson improves to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while the Cougars slip to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Senior tri-captain Ted Barbeau (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored the first goal of the contest just 54 seconds in, and sophomore Nate Brawn (Topsham, Maine) made it 2-0 with an unassisted score at 13:14. The Beavers would add three more goals in the final 10:22 of the quarter as they built a 5-0 advantage after one.
First-year Micah Prescott (Dorchester, Mass.) would put Clark on the board with a goal at 11:36 of the second quarter, but Babson responded with three straight scores by senior Tim Armenta (Kennebunk, Maine), including two just eight seconds apart, to take a commanding 8-1 lead with just under seven minutes left. Sophomore Devon Kinnard (Old Tappan, N.J.) would score the Cougars’ second goal with 4:13 left in the half, but the Beavers would net the final 12 goals of the contest to run away with the 20-2 victory.
Armenta and first-year Nick Fessenden (Newton, Mass.) led the Babson attack with four goals apiece, while Fessenden also dished out one assist. Brawn chipped in with three goals and one assist, and senior tri-captain Brian Collins (Needham, Mass.) contributed two scores. Junior Jared Connell (Yarmouth, Maine) picked up a game-high eight groundballs for the Beavers, while junior Dave Frascogna (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and junior Charles Roberts (Winter Park, Fla.) combined to stop five shots in net.
Junior Alan Green (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) finished with 22 saves while playing 50 minutes in net for Clark, while first-year Chris Sataline (Berlin, Conn.) made one stop in the final 10 minutes.
