|The Game Story:|
|WELLESLEY, MASS. -- Babson College used a huge second quarter to build a five-goal lead on its way to a
13-5 victory over visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy in Pilgrim League men?s lacrosse action on
Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers finish the regular season with a record of 9-4 overall and 5-1
in the conference, while the Buccaneers fall to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in Pilgrim League play.
With the score tied at 3-3 after the first 15 minutes, Babson took control of the contest in the second quarter, outscoring Massachusetts Maritime, 5-0, to take an 8-3 lead. First-year Jared Connell (Yarmouth, Maine) started things off with a goal at 12:23, and senior co-captain Patrick Reen (Wilmington, Del.) followed with the first of his two goals in the quarter at 10:14. Sophomores Ted Barbeau (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Tim Armenta (Kennebunk, Maine) both added scores during the run as the Beavers built five-goal lead at the half.
Neither team got much offense going in the third quarter, as the Beavers and Buccaneers managed just one goal apiece. Massachusetts Maritime then scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to cut its deficit to 9-5, but Babson answered with the final four goals of the contest to clinch the 13-5 victory.
Armenta finished with one goal and four assists for a game-high five points, while Connell added one goal and two helpers for three points. Junior Paul DeFina (Concord, Mass.) and first-year Dave Frascogna (Orchard Park, Fla.) combined to make 10 saves in net for the Beavers, who will travel to Western New England College for a matchup with the Golden Bears in Wednesday?s semifinal matchup of the Pilgrim League Tournament.
Senior Gregory Lynch (Weymouth, Mass.) and first-year Brian McAnenny (Wakefield, Mass.) led Massachusetts Maritime with two goals apiece, while first-year goalie Shawn Lopes (Silver Spring, Md.) made 21 saves in net before giving way to classmate Perry Raulerson (Bourne, Mass.) in the fourth.
