|The Game Story:|
|LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College earned its first NESCAC victory of the season with a 6-4 victory over Connecticut College Saturday at Campus Avenue Field.|
Junior Justin Simon (Canaan, N.H.) scored three goals, all in the first half, as the Bobcats (4-2, 1-2 NESCAC) took a 4-2 lead at halftime and held off the Camels (0-8, 0-6 NESCAC) in the second half.
Senior Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.) added two goals and senior Amadi Cisse (Hanover, N.H.) had three assists for Bates. Senior goalie Peter Boston (Acton, Mass.) made 11 saves to highlight a superb defensive effort for the Bobcats.
First-year Sean Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) scored a pair of goals for Connecticut College, while sophomore Jesse Stevenson (Marshfield, Mass.) and junior Matt Flanagan (Somerset, N.J.) added a goal and an assist apiece. First-year goalie Mark Moran (Greenwich, Conn.) came up with eight saves.
Simon scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season to open the game, and Bates took a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, a lead they never relinquished.
Driscoll answered by sandwiching Erimsan's first goal with a pair of scores, but Cisse and Simon connected for the second time in the game with just 6.5 seconds left in the half, putting the Bobcats up by two once again.
Both teams went scoreless in the third quarter, but Bates' lead jumped to three on a goal by junior Bryan Frates (Woodstock, Vt.) with 12 minutes left in the game. Flanagan (Somerset, N.J.) scored off a rebounded save to close the gap to 5-3 31 seconds later.
Junior Brent Morin (Hanover, N.H.) fed Erisman for Bates' final goal with 8:12 to play, putting the Bobcats ahead 6-3. The Camels took a flurry of shots in the waning minutes of the game, including Stevenson's goal on a Flanagan assist with 4:23 remaining.
Bates plays host to Trinity tomorrow at 2 p.m. in a makeup NESCAC game. Connecticut College will host Roger Williams on April 11 at 4 p.m.
