LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College men's lacrosse team is off to a 3-0 start after downing New England College 13-1 Tuesday night at Campus Avenue Field.

The Bobcats allowed their fewest goals since an 18-1 victory over Plymouth State on March 13, 2003.

The Pilgrims dropped to 1-1.

Senior midfielder Brenton Pitt (Duxbury, Mass.), junior John Kinnane (Little Compton, R.I.), and sophomore Justin Simon (Canaan, N.H.) all scored twice for Bates, with Kinnane and Pitt adding assists. Sophomore Pressly McCance (Houston, Texas) had a goal and two assists.

Junior Matt Erisman (Nantucket, Mass.) and senior David Pritchard each registered a goal and an assist. Sophomores Jeremy Grant (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Bryan Frates (Woodstock, Vt.) each scored goals, and junior Amadi Cisse contributed an assist.

New England College sophomore Dillon Lantz (Woodstock, Vt.) scored the Pilgrims' lone goal on an assist from classmate Carlos Gutierrez (Guayanabo, Puerto Rico) with 12:05 left in the third quarter, making the score 7-1.

Bates outshot New England 42 to 18, and recorded 44 ground balls to the Pilgrims' 25.

Four Bates goalkeepers saw playing time, combining for seven saves. Paul Kazarian (Providence, R.I.) made four saves in a shutout first half.

New England College sophomore Billy Brooks (Lewiston, Maine) made 14 saves for the Pilgrims.

Bates hosts Mt. Ida College Wednesday at 4 p.m. New England College plays Plymouth State in Orlando, Fla., on March 21.
