The Game Story:
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin men's lacrosse team took a five-goal third-quarter lead and held off a furious rally by Bates to take an 8-6 win on Tuesday in NESCAC action. The Polar Bears improve to 8-2 (4-2 NESCAC), while the Bobcats drop to 2-7 and 1-6, respectively. Bowdoin is ranked 10th in the latest national poll.

After Wes Couture gave Bates a 1-0 lead just 37 seconds into the contest, Bowdoin scored the next four goals to lead by three at halftime. Phil Stern, Ford Barker, Connor Fitzgerald and Ben Harris all collected a tally in the run, as the Polar Bears held Bates scoreless for the final 29:23 of the first half.

Bates closed the gap when Brenton Pitt scored at 11:22 of the third quarter, making it 4-2, but the Polar Bears racked up three straight in less than three minutes as Ford Gurall, Alex Weaver and Ryan Hurd gave Bowdoin a commanding 7-2 edge. Bates closed the third period with two straight goals from Peter Friedman, and clamped down on defense, allowing just one shot in the fourth quarter to Bowdoin.

Bates continued their run at 4:18 of the final quarter when Scott Duddy cut the Bowdoin lead to 7-5. Friedman tallied the hat trick on a man-up goal with 2:39 remaining to make it 7-6. But Polar Bear netminder, and NESCAC Player of the Week, Grant White proved up to the task again, collecting six second-half saves, including a pair in the closing minutes, to seal the win. Alex Weaver scored with five seconds remaining to clinch the game for Bowdoin.

White made 13 saves in goal for the Polar Bears while Paul Kazarian stopped 10 shots for the Bobcats.
