| DALLAS -- Junior attackman Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar scored four goals and added two assists and senior goalie #Todd Dermody made 20 saves for Nazareth Wednesday as the Golden Flyers defeated Bowdoin in men's lacrosse, 11-4, in a non-conference game played the Episcopal School of Dallas. Nazareth, ranked 13th nationally, improved to 3-1 overall, while 12th-ranked Bowdoin dropped to 1-2. Nazareth was in control most of the game with a 5-1 scoring advantage in the second quarter proving decisive. The score was tied 2-2 after a goal by Bowdoin's Russell Halliday early in the second quarter. Nazareth answered with eight straight goals between the second and third quarters to seize control. Jacobs-Ferderbar broke the tie with a goal off an assist from Mark DeCirce with 11:19 left in the second quarter. Jacobs-Ferderbar scored again unassisted 46 second later. Goals by Erinn O'Hara, DeCirce and Mike Cummings followed as Nazareth took a 7-2 lead at halftime. Nazareth expanded its lead to 10-2 in the third quarter as junior midfielder Scott Castle scored twice with the second goal coming off an extra-man assist from Jacobs-Ferderbar. Sophomore C.J. Estes then assisted Jacobs-Ferderbar on Nazareth's 10th goal with just :14 left in the third quarter. Halliday, who scored all four goals for the Polar Bears, scored twice early in the third quarter to bring Bowdoin to within 10-4, but DeCirce closed out the scoring with his second goal of the game off an assist from Jacobs-Ferderbar with 2:14 left. Dermody, meanwhile, kept Nazareth in the game with a strong game in goal as 14 of his saves came in the second half. The Golden Flyers play again Saturday against Western New England at 1 p.m. (EST) at Southern Methodist University. |
