The Game Story:
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Wesleyan senior captain Ian Applegate scored six times, including four times in the second half, as the Cardinals defeated host Bowdoin College 13-7 on Saturday in Brunswick. The win improves Wesleyan to 8-2 (2-2 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 6-2 (2-2 NESCAC).

Holding a 5-4 edge at intermission, Wesleyan scoerd five times in the third quarter to put the contest out of reach. Dan Ackil opened the frame with a goal at 11:52 before Applegate notched back-to-back tallies to increase the lead to 8-4. Ackil scored again at 7:09 and Jordan Funt closed out the 5-0 spurt with a goal at 36 seconds to make it 10-4.

Bowdoin's Joe Andrasko scored with just 24 seconds left in the period and the Polar Bears opened the final quarter with consecutive goals by Ford Gurall and Chris Eaton to cut the Cardinal lead to 10-7, but Wesleyan- behind the strong netminding of Matt Wheeler (eight saves)- held the Polar Bears at bay.

The Cardinals scored twice in 22 seconds on goals from Applegate and Mike Hines (at 4:53 and 4:31, respectively) to clinch the win. Applegate scored again with 1:28 on the clock to close out the game. Grant White (five saves) and Charles Legg (four saves) split time in goal for Bowdoin, who was led by two goals apiece from Andy Nelson and Ford Gurall. Wesleyan's Glenn Adams and Ackil also collected a pair of goals for the Cardinals.
