BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team won their season-opener over Williams on Saturday afternoon, 12-8. The Polar Bears (1-0) are ranked 17th in the latest national poll and will take to the road for spring break. Bowdoin will play three games in Florida before returning to Brunswick on March 25 against Springfield. Williams (0-1) will next play at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on March 18.

Bowdoin jumped out to a 4-1 lead early in the second quarter as Chris Eaton capped the run with a goal at 14:16 of the period. Williams closed the half on a 4-0 spurt and when Jeff Wilbur found the back of the cage with six seconds remaining in the quarter, the Ephs held a 5-4 edge at intermission.

A five-goal third-quarter gave the Polar Bears a commanding lead heading down the stretch. Connor Fitzgerald scored twice in the period, with Chris Eaton, Matt Chadwick and Matt Neidlinger also tallying scores. Bowdoin pushed the lead to 11-6 early in the fourth before a late flurry of goals made it a 12-8 final.

Bowdoin's Charlie Legg stopped 11 shots, while Williams netminder Rob Hawkins made 13 saves.
