| The Game Story: | |||||
| Haverford, Pennsylvania, March 13, 2004 - Sophomore Kevin Rayer
(Ridley/Woodlyn) scored an unsassisted goal with 56 seconds reamining to
lift Cabrini College (3-0) to a 13-12 win over Hamilton College (0-1) in a
seesaw contest at the Haverford School. The game was tense throughout, with neither team holding a lead of more than three goals. Cabrini took an 8-6 advantage into the fourth quarter, which began with Hamilton's Jack Newton and Cabrini's Matt Campbell (Broadneck/Arnold, MD) exchanging a pair of goals, with Campbell's second tally extending the Cavaliers lead to 10-8 with 10:10 remaining in the game. Hamilton's George Earle pulled the Continentals within one at the 8:49 mark, and teammate Jim Henry tied the game 40 seconds later, as the Continentals pulled even for the first time since late in the second quarter. Cabrini responded with a pair of goals of its own, the first one coming from Campbell off a feed from Steve Hill (Ridley/Folsom) with 6:56 to play. Michael Piccoli (Garnet Valley/Glen Mills) doubled the Cavaliers lead with 5:14 to play, one-timing a pass from Campbell past Hamilton's goalkeeper.. The Continentals would not go down without a fight, as Newton found Henry fto close the gap to 12-11 with 3:34 to play. Hamilton tied the score two minutes later, as Earle stole an outlet pass and found Newton, who tied the game at 12 with 1:24 to play, setting up Rayer's heroics. Cabrini's Antonio Masone (Comsewogue/Port Jefferson Station, NY) made 14 saves to record the win. Hamilton's Jason Mleckzo made nine stops in the losing effort. |
