Cabrini vs. Swarthmore

The Game Story:
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Cabrini College men's lacrosse team rebounds from back-to-back losses today to top Swarthmore College 15-7. The road win evens the Blue and White's overall record to 2-2. Senior Bobby Thorp match a career high with five goals, while junior Corey Elmer recorded his second five assist game of the season.

Led by Thorp, seven Cavaliers found the net today. Sophomore Anthony DiSanzo recorded his second consecutive hat trick. Elmer added a pair of goals to his stat line, as did sophomore Damian Sobieski.

The Garnet jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a pair of man-up goals. With 2:16 left in the opening frame, Elmer found DiSanzo putting the Blue and White on the board. The duo struck again less than a minute into the second quarter to level the score at 2-2. Forty seconds later, Swarthmore wrestled the lead back.

Just over five minutes into the period, the Cavaliers seemed to find their offensive mojo. Thorp tied the score at the 9:52 mark then gave Cabrini its first lead of the game with 8:44 to play before halftime. Sophomore Ethan Heisman extended the Cavaliers' lead to 5-3 when he converted a pass from Thorp into his third tally of the year. After a Swarthmore goal, junior Joey Shallow and DiSanzo found the net in the final 3:21 of the first half, sending the Blue and White into the break with a 7-4 advantage.

The Garnet got a goal back at the 8:26 mark of the third period, but Cabrini responded with a pair of goals. Scores by Elmer and sophomore Mike Leyden came 18 seconds apart, extending the Blue and White's lead to 9-5. That advantage was sliced in half, as Swarthmore added a pair of goals late in the third quarter.

The Cavaliers turned up the offensive pressure in the final quarter, outshooting the Garnet 14-5 and converted on 4-6 extra man opportunities. Thorp tallied a pair of goals, separated by five seconds, at the 11:46 and 11:41 marks. Sobieski recorded a goal with just under eight minutes to play, followed 20 seconds later by Thorp's fifth of the day. Man-up goals by Elmer and Sobieski closed the scoring for the Blue and White.

Sophomore Anthony DiNenno led Cabrini with five ground balls, while Elmer added four. DiSanzo forced a game high two turnovers, while senior goaltender Erick Zarzecki recorded 10 saves in the win.

Jonathan Molloy led the Garnet (0-3) with five goals, while Wes Marcik added two goals, one assist and a game-high seven ground balls.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday for their fourth consecutive road game. The Blue and White will visit No. 14 Gettysburg College (3-1). Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
