Castleton State vs. Becker

The Game Story:
Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College men's lacrosse team was hungry for a home game, and it showed in a 20-0 win over conference foe, Becker College.

The Spartans opened up the scoring just 1:10 into the game when Matt Varney took a feed from Matt VanDerKar and scored the first of his two goals. Castleton would tally seven in the opening quarter and six in the second to secure a 13-0 halftime lead.

Castleton spent the second half moving the ball very well, scoring five more goals in the third and finishing the half off with four in the final frame.

Matt VanDerKar was outstanding in all facets of his game, scoring four goals and adding three assists. The senior captain also scooped up 16 ground balls and won all 24 faceoffs he took.

Adam Rosati added three goals and three assists for 5-3 (4-0 NAC) Castleton, also tacking on six ground balls. Robbie Scanlon chipped in four goals and one assist, while Geoffrey Walker had three goals and two assists off the bench. Varney also had two assists to go along iwth his pair of goals, as did Steve Gerding.

Rounding out the Spartan scoring were James Bascom with two goals, one assist and Michael Martinez with two goals.

Becker's John Blomgren had 22 saves, several of which were of the outstanding variety. Blomgren also had ten ground balls for the 0-5 (0-4 NAC) Hakws, coming out of his crease several times to help control play in Castleton's attacking zone.

Castleton is back in action on Tuesday, April 17 when they travel to Johnson State for a 3:00 NAC tilt. Becker is back on the road on Wednesday when they travel to NAC foe, Thomas College for a 4:00 pm faceoff. [Game Stats]
