April 7, 2012
The Game Story:
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (April 7, 2012) - A six-point performance by junior Cameron Gunn (Johnson City, NY, Johnson City) led the Cyclones to an 8-2 victory over the DeSales University Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

The Cyclones jumped out quick as just over three minutes into the game, Robert Nuzzolese (Woodbury, NY, Syosset) capitalized on a pass from Gunn behind the net and shot it right past the Bulldog defender to put Centenary up 1-0.

Not even two minutes later, Gunn teamed up with Conor Nolan (Hillsborough, NJ, Immaculata) for a huge goal to put the Cyclones ahead 2-0 before Gunn took one to the net on his own to extend the Centenary lead to 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.

With 8:23 left in the half, Gunn came back once again as he flew around the right side of the net and launched a behind the back, over-the-shoulder shot past the Bulldog goalie to put the Cyclones up 4-0.

After a big save by senior goalie Kyle Mcvay (North Brunswick, NJ, North Brunswick), the Cyclones came out attacking once more as the Nolan and Gunn duo teamed up for another Cyclone goal to extend the lead out to 5-0.

The Bulldogs came out strong on the following faceoff however, winning the battle and launching an assault of shots on the Centenary defense before Nate Blevins finally found the back of the net to limit the deficit to 5-1.

With 2:39 remaining in the half and the Cyclones up a man, Gunn teamed up with Nolan as he ripped a shot off an outlet pass to put the Cyclones back up 6-1 entering the half.

Coming out of the half, the Cyclones defense held strong before Joshua Caven (Yardley, PA, Pennsbury) paired up with Nuzzolese for another Centenary goal, extending the lead to 7-1.

In the final minute of play in the third quarter, senior Jeff Prudente (Somerville, NJ, Somerville) took a rebound from the Bulldog defense and ripped a shot from the right of the net to give the Cyclones their eighth goal of the game.

The Centenary defense would stand tall the rest of the way, only allowing one more goal in the fourth quarter before going on to take an eventual 8-2 victory over the Bulldogs.

Gunn finished the day with three goals, three assists and a caused turnover while Nolan picked up two goals and assists with two groundballs. Defensively, Patrick Johnston (Glen Ridge, NJ, Glen Ridge) and Caven each picked up six groundballs to lead the game, while Johnston got three caused turnovers and Caven recorded a goal and two caused turnovers. McVay picked up the win for the Cyclones after recording 11 saves.

With the win, the Cyclones improve to 3-7 on the season and look to round out the season with their last four games to be held in front of their home crowd on Cyclone Field in Hackettstown, N.J. Following the holiday break, the Cyclones look to take on Shenandoah University next Saturday, April 14 at 12:00pm as part of a Division III week event.
