|The Game Story:|
|HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (April 18, 2012) - Despite 20 saves by senior goalie Kyle Mcvay (North Brunswick, NJ, North Brunswick), the Cyclones were unable to take down Drew University as they fell 11-7 to the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon.|
The Cyclones jumped ahead early as Robert Nuzzolese (Woodbury, NY, Syosset) and Conor Nolan (Hillsborough, NJ, Immaculata) paired up with a quick shot by Nuzzolese in front of the Rangers net to put Centenary on the board 1-0, but the Rangers responded quickly, tacking on a goal within a minute to even the game up at 1-1.
With just over seven minutes to go, the Rangers took their first lead of the game, before Nuzzolese responded back with another goal of his own to tie the game back up at 2-2 with 4:46 left in the game.
Unfortunately for the Cyclones, over the next nine minutes, the Rangers would put up four more goals, including a man-up opportunity with 8:36 left in the second quarter, to take back the lead at 6-2.
Coming off a Rangers penalty, the Cyclones began to attack as the offensive duo of Cameron Gunn (Johnson City, NY, Johnson City) and Nolan teamed up for a man-up Cyclone goal to limit the deficit to 6-3.
Just over a minute later, Nuzzolese found Nolan for a shot off the wing to cut the lead down to 6-4, but the Rangers responded right back with another goal of their own to take a 7-4 lead moving into halftime.
Aside from four Cyclone saves by McVay, the third quarter remained fairly quiet until a Rangers goal with just under four minutes remaining put Drew ahead 8-4.
Down four goals, the Cyclones needed to attack in the fourth quarter, and Gunn came out shooting as he found the back of the net just over a minute into the period to cut the deficit to 9-5.
Unfortunately, the Cyclones couldn't hold on for long as the Rangers teamed up for three consecutive goals, including a man-down goal with just under seven minutes remaining in the game to push the score to 11-5.
With just over 5:30 left in the game and the Cyclones down 11-5, Nuzzolese took a pass from Gunn and fired it home for his third goal of the game to cut the lead down to 11-6.
After a group of Centenary penalties, Nolan was able to take a pass from defenseman Sean Lowe (Westminster, MD, Westminster) and fire it past the Rangers goalie to give the Cyclones their seventh goal of the game before falling 11-7 to the Rangers.
Despite taking home the loss, McVay recorded 20 saves on the day, including eight groundballs for the Cyclones. With the loss, the Cyclones fall to 4-8 on the season, but look to attack on Saturday as they host Rosemont College at noon as part of a "Pink Game" in the fight against breast cancer as they wear pink shoelaces to support the cause. The Cyclones will also be honoring their graduating seniors on Saturday with their annual senior day celebration prior to the game.
