|(Hackettstown, NJ) – Richard Stockton (2-1) got off to a fast start but could not sustain the momentum and suffered its first defeat of the season, 14-9 to Centenary (2-0) in the Ospreys’ third straight road game to open the season. Freshman Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) led Stockton with four goals and Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) added three tallies.|
The Ospreys broke out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Zach Wilkins (Marlton/Cherokee) and Manasia in the first 2:30 of the game. After Centenary answered with two straight goals, Bologno netted his first marker of the game to put Stockton on top 3-2. The Cyclones struck again for consecutive goals and a 4-3 edge after one period.
Manasia threw in his second of the match 1:39 into the second quarter for a 4-4 tie before Centenary broke the game open with the next four goals for an 8-4 count at the half. Manasia scored the first goal of the second half to close the gap to 8-5, but the Ospreys could not get any closer. They trailed 11-6 after three quarters and fourth-period tallies by Manasia, Bologno and Connor DeCicco (Catonsville, MD/Mount St. Joseph) were offset by three Centenary goals for the 14-9 final score.
Stockton goalkeeper Kevin Eipel (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) made 15 saves and the Ospreys outshot Centenary 48-43 but went 0-5 with the extra man.
Stockton will wrap up a four-game road trip with a matchup at Gwynedd-Mercy on Wednesday, March 6
