Clarkson vs. Geneseo State

The Game Story:
After a strong showing against second-ranked Cortland on Saturday down in Florida, the Clarkson University Menís Lacrosse team suffered a let down on Tuesday, falling to Geneseo State 15-9 in Orlando.

Geneseo (2-1), which led 4-2 after the opening 15 minutes, netted four consecutive goals at the start of the second quarter, building an 8-2 lead midway through the stanza. Clarkson kept pace with Geneseo through the remainder of the half, trailing 8-6 after 30 minutes. The New York State rivals traded goals two goals apiece in the third, but Geneseo broke the game open in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Clarkson, 5-1 over the final 15 minutes.

Senior Tom Ross (Adams, NY) led Clarkson with three goals. Senior Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY) and freshman Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ) tallied two goals and one assist apiece. Sophomore Tyler Long (Liverpool, NY) also scored twice. Senior Erik Hilfinger (Ann Arbor, MI) recorded one assist.

Clarkson held the edge in shots, 36-33, but Geneseo controlled ground balls 33-31.

Senior John Svoren (Hamburg, NY) played three quarters for the Knights in goal, making three saves. Freshman Pat Sweeney (Canton, NY) played the final 15 minutes in the Clarkson goal.

Tom Costanza led the Geneseo attack with five goals and one assist. Mike Cintineo netted four goals. Dennis Costanza went the distance in goal for Geneseo, making 10 saves in posting the win.

Clarkson at 1-2, will close out its Florida trip on Friday, playing Montclair State in a 10:00 a.m. contest Sylvan Lake Park, Sanford, FL.
