Clarkson vs. Nazareth

The Game Story:
SYLVAN LAKE, Fla. (March 13, 2006) -- Junior attackman Ryan Hotaling (pictured) scored five goals and senior midfielder Bryan Adams had three goals and 11 ground balls Monday as Nazareth bounced back from Saturday's disappointing loss with a 17-10 victory over Clarkson in a game played at Sylvan Lake Park near Orlando.

The victory boosted the Golden Flyers' record to 2-1 overall. Clarkson is 1-1. Nazareth's win came two days after the Golden Flyers suffered a 12-9 loss to upstart Geneseo.

Against Clarkson, the Golden Knights scored first as Erik Hilfinger converted a pass from Brian Hoey, then Nazareth rattled off 10 straight goals to take control for good. Nazareth got goals from seven different players in the first quarter. Adams scored unassisted to tie the score, then Kevin Kimball scored off an assist from Conor O'Keefe and Nazareth was ahead to stay.

Before the first quarter ended, Ryan Maciaszek, Aaron Civalier, Brian Gaffney, Hotaling and Chris Balash added goals. Second-quarter goals by Hotaling, Chad Amidon and Jim Shultheis extended the scoring string and gave Nazareth a 10-1 lead. Clarkson then scored twice before halftime.

Hotaling scored three more times in the third quarter and Adams added an extra-man goal to keep Nazareth in control. Balash, Adams and Amidon scored in the fourth quarter, before Clarkson closed out the scoring with three goals.

Nazareth dominated statistically, outshooting Clarkson 47-28 and controlling ground balls 56-28. Nazareth also won 25 of 31 face-offs, with Gaffney winning 17 of 21 and freshman David Romano 8 of 10.

Cory Reinhart and Greg Gibbons each had three goals for Clarkson. Hilfinger finished with two goals.

Nazareth plays again Thursday against Bowdoin at 3 p.m. before returning home Friday.
