| CLARKSON PULLS OUT 5-4 TRIPLE OVERTIME WIN AGAINST RENSSELAER

Drake (Rochester, NY) with 2:05 remaining in the third sudden-victory overtime period to lift the
Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team to a 5-4 win over Upstate Collegiate Athletic
Association (UCAA) rival Rensselaer at Hantz Field on Sunday afternoon.
Ranked 17th in the country, the Golden Knights improved their record to 7-2 overall and to 2-1 in the UCAA. Rensselaer, ranked 16th in the nation, lost for the first time in four games and stands at 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Trailing 4-3 midway through the fourth quarter, Clarkson forced overtime when freshman AJ Heiligman (Webster, NY) scored a man-up goal with 7:14 to play. Both teams displayed solid defensive efforts and outstanding goaltending in the lengthy contest, which was a one-goal game throughout the 69:55 of play. Clarkson outshot Rensselaer 35-30 and held a 45-39 advantage in groundballs. Sophomore Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) made 16 saves for the Knights, including 10 in the first half. Matt Moog posted 18 stops for the Red Hawks, including five in overtime. Senior Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY), who led all scorers with three points (1-2), gave the Knights an early 1-0 first-quarter lead. The Red Hawks tied it late in the second quarter on a goal by Adam LoGiudice. With 1:01 remaining in the half, Clarkson went on top 2-1with junior Dan Amedro's (Syracuse, NY) goal, but with just three seconds left before intermission, Luke Ruglisc scored Rensselaer's second goal to tie the game. The Red Hawks took a 3-2 lead in the third on Cody Daigle's goal, but the Knights' answered back with a goal by sophomore Brian Murphy (Camillus, NY) with 31 second left in the third quarter. At 4:31 of the fourth quarter, Rensselaer took its final lead on Nick Culotti's goal. |
