|KNIGHTS SHUTDOWN by ST. LAWRENCE|
The Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team saw its chance for a shot at the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) regular season title come to an end on Wednesday afternoon as St. Lawrence handed the Golden Knights a 9-2 loss at Hantz Field.
Clarkson, at 9-3 overall and 3-2 in the UCAA, will close out the regular season at Skidmore on Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. contest. The Knights, tied with the Saints for third in the league standings, are still alive for a berth in the upcoming UCAA playoffs (May 2&4), but must defeat the Thoroughbreds on Saturday to qualify for the four-team tournament.
St. Lawrence (9-2, 3-2 UCAA) dominated Wednesday's game from the start taking a 2-0 first-quarter lead and then building their advantage to 5-0 at the half. Sophomore midfielder Rich Burritt (Oswego, NY) got Clarkson off to a quick start to open the third scoring the Knights' first goal just 26 seconds in, but the Saints went on to score three of the next four goals to hold a 8-2 lead after 45 minutes. Junior Attackman Sean Pearce (Auburn, NY) tallied the Green and Gold's second goal to close out the third. Chris Hanbury scored his second goal of the game in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring for St. Lawrence.
Alex Moore led the Saints with three goals.
The Saints' Stephen Salotti and Clarkson sophomore Joe Zebrowski (Liverpool, NY) each posted 16 saves.
