Clarkson vs. Brockport

The Game Story:


A late rally by the Clarkson University Lacrosse team came up short on Wednesday afternoon as the Golden Knights fell in non-league play to Brockport State 9-7 in the first official game played on the newly refurbished Hantz Turf Field.



Trailing 9-4 late in the fourth quarter, Clarkson scored the last three goals of the game, but ran out of time in its bid for victory.



Sophomore Matt Cyr (Cheshire, CT) led the Green and Gold offensively with two goals and one assist. Clarkson also received goals from junior Evan Miles (Onondaga, NY), sophomores Eric Gollands (Chelmsford, MA), Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ) and Ryan Esposito (Nanuet, NY), and freshman Matt McCabe (Syracuse, NY).



Brockport’s Adam Drypolcher led all scorers with three goals and four points.



Clarkson and Brockport (2-0) were even after the opening 15 minutes, but the Golden Flyers outscored the Knights 2-0 in the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead into the half. Brockport held a 7-4 advantage after three quarters and held a five-goal lead with 9:17 to play.



Miles, Cyr and Huff scored over the final three minutes for Clarkson to make the game close.



Clarkson held a 28-22 advantage in shots, while the Golden Eagles controlled groundballs 39-27.



Sophomore Pat Sweeney (Canton, NY) started in the Clarkson goal and made three saves on seven shots in the first half. Freshman Ryan Cole (Orchard Park, NY) played the final two quarters for the Knights and posted three saves while allowing five goals.



Clarkson, at 0-2, will play at St. John Fisher in Rochester, NY this Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
