|STONY BROOK, N.Y. --- The Colby College men's lacrosse team darted out to a 6-1 lead at halftime only to falter in the second half in losing 7-6 to Union College in a non-conference game at Stony Brook University on Tuesday.|
Union improved to 5-1 overall, while the Mules fell to 2-3 heading into Thursday's 4 p.m. game at Wheaton College. All three of Colby's losses this season have been by one goal.
The Mules, who received 17 saves from goalie Thomas Gianakos, still led 6-2 heading into the fourth quarter. After the Dutchmen moved the score to 6-5, Scott Garibaldi tallied with 1:40 left to tie the game and then hit the game-winning goal with just 12.9 seconds to play for the come-from-behind win. Garibaldi finished with four goals and one assist.
Whit McCarthy and John Jennings both had two goals to lead Colby. Ian Deveau finished with one goal and one assist, while Stew Brown added one goal. Mark Squicciarino and Greg McKillop both had one assist.
Craig Bunker won 13 face-off attempts and lost just four while picking up eight groundballs for Colby. James Brady led the Colby defense with eight groundballs.
