NEW LONDON, Conn.--Lonnie Blumenthal (Ballwin, Mo.) scored on a feed from Grayson Connors (Princeton, Junction, N.J.) with 3:01 remaining in the second overtime Wednesday, lifting fourth ranked Wesleyan University (8-1, 2-1) to an 8-7 victory at Connecticut College (0-7, 0-6). Connors and Jayson Ben-Eliyahu (East Setauket, N.Y.) tallied two goals apiece for Wesleyan. Chris Jasinski (Wilton, Conn.) added a goal and an assist in the NESCAC contest.
Freshman midfielder Sean Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.) tallied a hat-trick with three scores for the Camels. Jesse Stevenson (Marshfield, Mass.) had a four point afternoon with two goals and two assists for the hosts. Steve Dachille (Garden City, N.Y.) tallied two goals and Mike Bruno (Andover, Mass.) added two assists for Connecticut College.
The Cardinals jumped on the Camels early, building a 3-0 lead on Chris Jasinski's score with 8:40 left in the first quarter. But Driscoll scored the next two goals and the hosts took their first lead when Stevenson fed Dachille for a goal with 6:28 remaining in the half. Driscoll scored his third goal of the soggy afternoon with just 27 seconds to play and the Camels carried a 6-4 lead into the intermission.
The Cardinals rebounded with a productive third quarter, scoring three unanswered goals to regain the lead, 7-6. Ben-Eliyahu put in the go-ahead score, setting up a wild fourth quarter finish.
Wesleyan killed off two penalties at the start of the quarter. In the closing moments, the Camels gained possession and took a timeout with one minute to play. With 37 seconds remaining Stevenson spotted Dachille about 15 yards out in front of the left post and the freshman buried the equalizer, forcing extra play.
But with 3:01 remaining in the second overtime, Grayson Connors dished to Blumenthal who was coming across the middle for a one-timer and the Cardinals walked away with the 8-7 victory.
Charlie Congleton (Groton, Mass.) had five stops in net for the Cardinals. Mark Moran (Greenwich, Conn.) had eight saves for the Camels.
