| CORTLAND, N.Y. ? Eleven different players scored goals as the nationally seventh-ranked Cortland men?s lacrosse team raced out to a 12-0 first-half lead en route to an 18-3 victory over Clarkson Wednesday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 3-1, while the Golden Knights fell to 1-3. Junior Mike Felice (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) led the Cortland offense with two goals and two assists. Senior Matt O?Connell (Camillus/West Genesee) and sophomore Ryan Heath (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) recorded two goals and one assist each, and seniors Kyle Lambert (Brentwood), Brian Atkins (Adams/South Jefferson), Tim Castoro (South Huntington/Walt Whitman) and junior Tony Ventiquattro (Deferiet/Carthage) each scored twice. Senior Ben Gaebel (Deferiet/Carthage) started in goal, making two saves and allowing one goal in 36:30. Freshman Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored a goal and added an assist for Clarkson. Senior Bryan Johnson (Newark) and freshman Brian Hoey (Auburn) recorded one goal each, while freshman Corey Reinhart (Albany/Colonie) collected an assist. Sophomore Greg Lamb (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) started in the cage and made five saves in 21:34 before giving way to freshman Eric Wolery (Cincinnati, OH/LaKota West), who stopped eight shots in 38:26. The Red Dragons led 6-0 after the opening quarter and stretched the lead to 12-0 before Johnson netted a man-up goal right before halftime for Clarkson. Cortland scored all three goals in the third quarter for a 15-1 lead and outscored the Golden Knights, 3-2, in the final quarter for the 18-3 score. Cortland outshot Clarkson, 59-11, held a 72-27 advantage in ground balls and won 21-of-25 faceoffs. Each team scored two man-up goals |
