|CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The eighth-ranked SUNY Cortland men's lacrosse team beat
SUNYAC rival Geneseo 13-4 behind a five-goal, two-assist effort by senior
attackman Craig Degnan (Rockville Centre/South Side). After Geneseo got on
the board first with a goal by junior Dave Spennacchio (Fairport) 27
seconds into the first quarter, Degnan scored three goals in the next 7:27
and Cortland wouldn't trail again in the game. Junior Drew Hyatt
(Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) added a goal to bring the score to 4-1 after
Sophomore Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored the
first three goals in the second period to push the score to 7-1. Senior
Rob McCurdy (Lynbrook) capped off a 8-0 Cortland run with a goal with 15
seconds left in the second period. Geneseo got two quick goals out of the
half to bring the game to a five goal differential at 8-3. The Red Dragons
scored the next three goals with two tallies from Degnan and one by senior
Derek Elvin (Orchard Park). Cortland would add two more goals and Geneseo
one in the fourth quarter to get the final score of13-4.
Senior Steve Feltman (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) started in goal
for the Red Dragons and made seven saves while giving up three goals in
47:30. Senior Michael Draper (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) finished out the
game in goal playing 12:30 and made four saves while giving up one goal.
Junior Andy Howk (Pittsford/Pittsford-Sutherland) stared between the pipes
for the Knights, registering 22 saves, including 19 in the first half,
before giving way to junior David Knapp (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy),
who stopped two shots in 15 minutes of action.
With the win the Red Dragons impove to 2-2 and 1-0 in the SUNYAC. Geneseo
drops their mark to 2-2 and 0-1 in the SUNYAC. Cortland will be in action
again on Saturday when the play host to Springfield.
