|CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Drew Hyatt (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt), freshman
Kyle Lambert (Brentwood) and freshman Ryan LaFleur (Ossining) each scored
three goals as nationally third-ranked Cortland defeated Gordon College of
Massachusetts 19-2 in the NCAA Division III men^“s lacrosse tournament
^”round of 16^‘ Saturday night at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. Cortland
will face Hamilton College ^÷ an 11-10 overtime winner versus Eastern
Connecticut State ^÷ in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 14, at a site
and time to be determined.
Cortland is now 16-2, tying a school single-season record for victories set last season in a 16-3 campaign. The Red Dragons have won a school single-season record 15 straight games since starting 1-2. Gordon, making its first NCAA tournament appearance, finishes the season with a 10-6 mark.
The Red Dragons jumped out early on the Fighting Scots, taking a 5-1 lead after one quarter and 10-1 at halftime. Hyatt finished with an assist in addition to his three goals. Freshman Clyde Robinson (Binghamton) and senior Derek Elvin (Orchard Park) each had two goals and an assist, while junior Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) and senior Craig Degnan (Rockville Centre/South Side) scored two goals apiece.
Senior goalie Steve Feltmann (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) made four saves in 43:40 of action and senior Michael Draper (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) made one save over the final 16:20.
Gordon^“s scoring came from senior Mark Schreiber (Queenstown, MD) with 36 seconds left in the first quarter and by senior Peter Chapman (Sewickly, PA) with 29 seconds remaining in the game. Freshman goalie Jeremy Collins (Long Island) made 12 saves for the Fighting Scots, the champion of the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
