| Cortland, N.Y. – The seventh-ranked men’s lacrosse team dropped a 15-4 decision at #30 Cortland Wednesday night. The Bombers are now 9-2 on the season, while the defending national champion Red Dragons evened their record at 4-4. Cortland led 2-0 after the first quarter and led 5-0 when junior Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) got Ithaca on the board with 7:22 remaining in the first half with junior midfielder Mike Nowak (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) getting the assist. The Red Dragons scored all six third quarter goals to put the game out of reach. Nelligan added his second goal of the game 3:25 into the fourth quarter from junior midfielder Craig Lepiane (West Irondequoit/Rochester). Freshman midfielder Nic Heckman (Sparta/ Sparta, N.J.) tallied his second goal of the season at the 5:39 with an assist from sophomore midfielder Matt Cutter (Needham/Needham, Mass.), his first of the year. Freshman attack/midfielder Dan McGuffie (Penn Yan Academy/Penn Yan) closed the scoring in the game with the first goal of his collegiate career with 2:21 remaining. Sophomore attack Adam Berg (Mendham/Chester, N.J.) registered and assist on the play. Senior goalie Dennis Butler (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) made 13 saves in 48:10 in goal and fell to 9-2 on the season. Sophomore goalies Ben Connery (Homer/Homer) and Colin Meadow (Downingtown East/Downingtown, Pa.) split the final 12:50 in goal. Connery made one save. The Bombers return to action Saturday when they host the Alfred Saxons at 1 p.m. at Upper Terrace Field. |
