|ENDICOTT, N.Y. -- Trailing by three in the first quarter and tied at
halftime, fourth-ranked SUNY Cortland outscored 11th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan
University 15-3 in the second half to defeat the Battling Bishops 21-9 in a
battle of nationally-ranked Division III squads at Union-Endicott High

Senior Matt Coughlin (Denver, CO/Regis Jesuit) and freshman John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, MD/Gonzaga) each scored twice during the early run. Cortland (4-1), however, scored the final three goals of the quarter, capped by junior Craig Degnan's (Rockville Centre/South Side) goal off a Drew Hyatt (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) assist with 45 seconds left to tie the game at 5-5. Cortland took a 6-5 lead 11 seconds into the second quarter on a goal by junior Derek Elvin (Orchard Park), but OWU tied the game with 7:48 left in the half on a tally by senior John Galvin (Port Washington/Kent (CT)).
The Red Dragons scored the first four goals of the third quarter to take a 10-6 lead and led by at least three goals the rest of the way. OWU was within 13-9 on a Galvin goal 1:35 into the fourth quarter, but the Red Dragons shut down the Bishops the rest of the way and scored eight goals in the final 10:35.
