| CORTLAND, N.Y. - Eight different players scored goals and not one player had more than two as nationally eighth-ranked Cortland defeated Oswego, 12-2, in SUNYAC men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons, who won their 500th game in program history last Saturday at Plattsburgh, improved to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while the Lakers fell to 6-7 and suffered their first conference lost that dropped them to 3-1. Junior Brian Krol (Niskayuna) turned in Cortland's top offensive performance with two goals and two assists. Juniors Tom Burke (Massapequa) and Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) and freshman Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) each scored a pair of goals. Senior Joey Morgan (Putnam Valley), junior Chris Dutkowsky (Vestal) and freshman Greg Wright (Irondequoit) had a goal and an assist each, and sophomore Matt Evanchak (Syracuse/West Genesee) added a goal. Sophomore Chris DeLuca (Sayville) collected three assists, eight ground balls and won 9-of-11 faceoffs. Senior goalie Matt Hipenbecker (Mountain Lakes, NJ) made five saves through three quarters, and freshman Kyle Gaebel (Deferiet/Carthage) stopped four shots in the final quarter. Senior Mike Recor (Kirkville/East Syracuse-Minoa) tallied both of Oswego's goals. Senior Mike Brewster (East Syracuse/East Syracuse-Minoa) picked up an assist. Junior goalie Judd Robinson (Guilderland) had an outstanding game, turning aside 21 shots. Cortland opened up a 2-0 lead after a deliberate first quarter with Dutkowsky scoring at three minutes, eight seconds and Misiaszek netting his first of the game at 2:13. The Red Dragons then scored the first four goals of the second quarter in less than a five-minute span to push their lead to 6-0. Recor stopped the run at 6:40, but Cortland closed out the half with goals from Burke and Morgan at 6:00 and 4:00 to lead 8-1. Recor netted his second of the game at 10:55 of the third quarter before Tota and Wright scored goals to make it a 10-2 game heading into the fourth quarter. The final quarter was filled with physical play with eight total penalties whistled. The only two scores of the quarter came from Krol with a man up at 6:31 and Evanchak at 2:53. Cortland outshot Oswego, 62-18, in the game, won 12-of-18 faceoffs and held a 38-30 advantage in ground balls.
