The Game Story:
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Sophomore Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) and junior Drew Hyatt (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) accounted for nine of Cortland^̉s 14 goals as the nationally eighth-ranked Red Dragons defeated visiting Springfield College 14-3 in a Division III non-conference matchup.

Hughes scored a career-high six goals and assisted on another, while Hyatt finished with three goals and three assists. Hughes tallied twice in the first four minutes to give the Red Dragons (3-2) a 2-0 lead. Springfield answered with a goal by Craig Gibson (South Salem/John Jay) to close within 2-1 with seven minutes, 48 seconds left in the first quarter, but Hughes answered with goals at the 5:00 mark of the first quarter and 45 seconds into the second quarter to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Red Dragons led 6-1 at halftime and used a 4-0 run, including two Hyatt goals and a Hughes score, to take a 10-2 lead late in the third period. Junior Andrew Roth (Ridgewood, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) and freshman Matt O^̉Connell (Camillus/West Genesee) each finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Cortland senior goalie Steve Feltmann (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) made 12 saves before leaving the game with 6:35 remaining. Senior Michael Draper (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) stopped three shots and did not allow a goal the rest of the way. Springfield sophomore goalie P.J. Rovinelli (Framingham, MA) made 24 saves, including 13 in the first half.

Cortland will host SUNYIT in a SUNYAC game on Monday at 4 p.m. The teams were originally scheduled to play in Utica on March 18 but were postponed due to the weather.
