The Game Story:
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Freshman Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) established career highs with seven points and five goals, and freshman Greg Wright (Irondequoit) scored a pair of goals and recorded career bests of four assists and six points as the nationally ninth-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team defeated Brockport, 14-2, Tuesday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference, while the Golden Eagles fell to 5-6 and 3-3.

Senior Joey Morgan (Putnam Valley) scored twice for Cortland, which registered assists on 13-of-14 goals in the game. Sophomore Chris DeLuca (Sayville) and freshman Danny Michella (Stony Point/North Rockland) each had a goal and an assist. Senior Conor Duffy (Vestal) and freshmen Zack Mulvaney (Deferiet/Carthage) and Eric Richards (Skaneateles) scored one goal apiece and five other players each chipped in with an assist. Senior goalies Matt Hipenbecker (Mountain Lakes, NJ) and Mike Robinson (Alexandria, VA/Thomas Edison) split time in the cage. Hipenbecker made one save and allowed one goal in the first half and Robinson stopped six shots while allowing one score in the second half.

Junior Brian Loeffler (Islip) and senior Jeremy DeJohn (Jordan/Jordan-Elbridge) netted Brockport's goals, and freshman Nate Thomas (Cortland) picked up an assist. Senior goalie Garret Allwes (Amherst) made 11 saves in the first 48:15 before giving way to sophomore Kyle Crosley (Clinton/Homer), who stopped one shot over the final 11:45.

Loeffler gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead at the 12 minute, 47 second mark with an unassisted goal. Brockport held the lead until just past the midway point of the first quarter when Tota tied the game at 7:03. The Red Dragons then ended the opening quarter with six more goals for a 7-1 lead. Cortland scored four times in a three-minute span and went 3-for-4 on man-up opportunities, including Tota's third goal of the quarter with just 10 seconds on the clock. The Red Dragons siezed control of the game by outscoring the Golden Eagles, 4-0, in the second stanza and led 11-1 at the break. Tota netted a pair of goals and Duffy and Mulvaney also scored in the quarter.

Wright set up DeLuca's goal at 3:00 of the third quarter for the only goal and Cortland led 12-1. DeJohn broke the 12-goal Red Dragon run, assisted by Thomas, at 9:22 of the fourth quarter. Michella then set up Richard's first career goal at 3:51 and Michella finished the scoring at 1:50 with his first career score off freshman Tyler Granelli's (North Salem/John Jay-Cross River) assist.

Cortland outshot the Golden Eagles, 41-24, including 18-2 in the opening quarter, and held a commanding 47-20 advantage in ground balls. The Red Dragons also won 15-of-20 faceoffs.
