| DUBLIN, Ohio— The Big Red men’s lacrosse team battled back from a 4-4 tie at the half to defeat the Kenyon Lords 12-8 in the 2005 men’s lacrosse season opener on Sunday. The game which was originally scheduled to be played at Denison was moved to Dublin-Coffman High School’s artificial playing surface. Freshman Alex Baruch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher’s) got the start in goal in his first collegiate game and recorded 10 saves. In the scoring department Denison was led by Ted Douglass (Englewood, Colo./Kent Denver) and Chris Boehl (Wilmington, Del./Tatnall) who both finished with three goals apiece. Junior Clay Wawner (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) netted two goals and two assists while Ricky Mackessy (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) scored one goal and helped on one assist. The remaining three goals came via Chris Chandler (Kent, Ohio/Roosevelt), Tom Moschos (Worcester, Mass./St. Mark’s) and Yianni Savoulidis (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Columbia). Chandler also added two assists while Brian Cleary (Milton, Mass./Boston College H.S.) and Warner Siebert (Baltimore, Md./Friends School) both finished with one assist each. Siebert also led Denison in face-offs, taking all 24 and winning 17 (.708). The Big Red’s next four games will all be on the road. They will travel to Gettysburg on March 12 for a 1 p.m. start and will head to Haverford College on March 16th for a 3 p.m. start. |
