Denison vs. Kenyon

The Game Story:
Granville, Ohio - Denison saw Andy MacIlwaine find the net six times and assist on another score as Denison fended off a pesky Kenyon team for a 14-8 win Friday night. The victory enables the Big Red to clinch the North Coast Athletic Conference title as they improved to 4-0.

Denison took their record to 10-2 on the season. The Lords fell to 9-3 and 3-2 in the NCAC. The Big Red are one game ahead of Ohio Wesleyan with one left but hold the tiebreaker over the Bishops by virtue of defeating them in the first meeting of the season.

MacIlwaine and Kevin Sullivan combined for three goals and two assists to give Denison a 3-2 advantage after a quarter.

The Big Red would outscore the Lords 7-2 over the middle two periods to amass a 10-4 lead after three quarters. MacIlwaine, Sullivan and Kip Hale each netted two goals each in those two periods.

After MacIlwaine scored first in the final quarter to make it 11-4 Denison, Kenyon scored the next four goals to make the game very interesting to pull to within 11-8 with 8:33 remaining. Denison took back control with the final three tallies to close out a 14-8 win.

MacIlwaine finished with six scores and one assist while goalie Peter Royer had 17 saves in 60 minutes in net. Sullivan had a hat trick with two assists and Hale two-piece in goals and assists.

Denison will travel to the College of Wooster on Tuesday afternoon in their next affair.
