|SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- In the very first start of his collegiate career, sophomore
goalkeeper Reeves Craig had an .889 saves percentage -- making 16 saves and
allowing only two goals -- as Goucher launched its season with a 6-2 triumph
over Dickinson (0-1) at Clothier Stadium.
The Gophers (1-0) made the most of the only two shots they managed in the
opening period as they grabbed a 2-1 lead on a pair of goals by T. Scott
Robertson. An extra-man goal by Dickinson's Jimmy Long with 2:58 remaining in
the second quarter produced a 2-2 tie at the end of the first half.
After being limited to just five shots in the first half, the Gophers unleashed
11 in the third quarter and went ahead to stay on an unassisted goal by Matt
Wilson with 8:40 remaining in the period. After Wilson scored again four
minutes later, increasing Goucher's lead to 4-2, Robertson completed his
three-goal effort off an assist from Tim Pistel to put the Gophers ahead 5-2
heading into the fourth quarter.
Wilson notched his third goal of the contest with 4:39 left to play to close
out the scoring.
