Dickinson vs. Goucher

The Game Story:
(Carlisle, PA)--The 15th-ranked Dickinson College men's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 10-2 win over Goucher on Wednesday. The Red Devils led just 3-2 at halftime, but scored two goals in the third and tacked on five in the fourth as the Red Devil defense held the Gophers scoreless for the final 32 minutes of the game.

Goucher struck first out of the stick of Ross Nochumowitz at the 10:45 mark of the first quarter. Junior midfielder Ed Lawless (Abington, PA/LaSalle) answered with goals at the 2:04 mark and again with 58 seconds remaining to put the Devils in front 2-1. Senior Brian Read (Timonium, MD/Boys' Latin) assisted Lawless' second goal and found the back of the net with just eight seconds on the clock to stretch the margin to 3-1 at the end of the first period.

Dan Flamholtz scored Goucher's final tally, taking a pass from Dan Abrams and breaking free with 2:26 remaining in the half to pull the Gophers within a goal. The score stayed 3-2 for the better part of the third as well before Flynn Burch (Ruxton, MD/Loyola Blakefield) scored off a Drew Peace (Lutherville, MD/Boys' Latin) assist at the 4:59 mark, and then returned the favor, assisting Peace with 2:08 to go in the period.

Dickinson remained in control throughout the fourth quarter, adding five more goals on the afternoon. Scott Dalgliesh (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) scored twice in the period while Eddie Boyd (Owings Mills, MD/St. Paul's), Andy Brown (Monkton, MD/Boys' Latin) and Derek Still (Oreland, PA/Penn Charter) each struck once.

The Red Devil defense was solid all afternoon, holding Goucher to just 13 shots. Senior Dillon DePalmer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) caused a pair of turnovers and added two groundballs. Sophomore Matt Kogelschatz (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's) also forced a pair of turnovers.

Burch led the attack with a goal and three assists while Read and Peace each finished with a goal and two assists. Read tallied a pair of caused turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Face-off men Bernie Nolan (Bowie, MD/Gonzaga) and Scott Sporn (Bedford Corners, NY/Pomfret) combined to win 10-of-14 face-offs for the Devils. Nolan won six while Sporn claimed 4-of-5 on the day. Kevin Riley (Westfield, NJ/Lawrenceville) earned the win in goal, stopping five shots.

The Red Devils will host Wooster (OH) College on Saturday at Calvert Hall in Baltimore on Saturday. Opening face-off is set for 1:00 pm.
