|(Sanford, Fla.)- The Dickinson College men's lacrosse team edged Kenyon College 11-10 in Florida on Tuesday afternoon.|
The game was back-and-forth the whole way with the Devils gaining the edge in the third, outscoring Kenyon 4-2.
The Lords struck first with back-to-back goals to pull in front 2-0. The Devils answered and later tied the game, 4-4, as Phil Caputo (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley) scored off a Derek Still (Oreland, Pa./Penn Charter) assist with just 20 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The teams traded goals through the second with Kenyon taking a 7-6 lead into halftime. Junior Chris Dodson (Bethesda, Md./Landon) opened the second half with a pair goals in just a span of 1:12, both assisted by classmate Ted Sirvaitis (Greenwich, Conn/Greenwich).
Bennett Albertson (Branchville, N.J./Portsmouth Abbey School) gave the Devils their biggest advantage, scoring unassisted at the 5:45 mark to put Dickinson in front 9-7. Kenyon sandwiched goals around Caputo's second tally of the game to end the third period with the Devils on top 10-9.
The fourth quarter was all defense as the teams were able to find the net one more time each for the final of 11-10.
Five Devils put a pair of goals on the board, led by Sirvaitis with two goals and two assists. Dodson and Still each finished with two goals and an assist while Albertson and Caputo each finished with two goals. First-year B.J. West (Summit, N.J./Summit) scored as well.
Sophomore Pat Curley (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) won 10-of-19 face-offs and controlled five ground balls.
Senior Russell Matthews (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) made 16 saves in goal and controlled five ground balls as well.
Jordan Zimolka led Kenyon (1-2) with three goals while David Page made 13 saves and controlled three ground balls.
The Red Devils improve to 3-1 on the season. They return north to host Roanoke College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
