| CARLISLE, PA -- The fourth-ranked Washington College Shoremen fired off 71
shots and collected 61 ground balls en route to a 16-3 win over host Dickinson
College this afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The Shoremen improved
to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play with the win, while the Red Devils
slipped to 5-7 and 2-4.
The Shoremen led 3-0 after the first period and 8-1 at the half. WC won 19 of the game's 23 faceoffs, scored two goals less than a minute apart three times, and scored three goals in a 37-second span in the third quarter. Shoreman junior attackman Eric Kuehn (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) led the WC assault with five goals and three assists in the contest. Sophomore midfielder Stephen Berger (Jessup, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) added a goal and three assists and sophomore midfielder Brent Renner (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) contributed three goals. Junior midfielder Chris Edwards (Baltimore, MD/Boys' Latin) scored two goals, while freshman midfielder Jon Spivey (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) and senior midfielder Brad Hopkins (Kennedyville, MD/Kent County) each had a one goal and one assist. Senior attackman Jon Fellows (Millington, MD/Kent County) tallied a pair of assists. WC freshman goalie Alex Pirani (Woburn, MA/Winchester/Bridgton, ME) made nine saves and allowed two goals in 42:36 of play. Dickinson goalie Sean McGowan made 16 saves and played the first 59 minutes. The Shoremen are back in action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. conference game at Swarthmore. |
