The Game Story:
GETTYSBURG, PA -- Sophomore attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) scored six goals to lead the eighth-ranked Washington College men's lacrosse team past 15th-ranked Dickinson, 9-5, in the Centennial Conference semifinals Friday at Gettysburg College. The Shoremen improved to 13-3 with the win, while the Red Devils fell to 11-4.

The Shoremen took a 2-0 lead by scoring both of the first-quarter goals in the game. Senior midfielder Ryan Morrison (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset/Salisbury School, CT) broke a scoreless tie with a goal with 4:05 to play in the opening period. Chris Read made it 2-0 with a goal off an assist from junior attackman Kevin Nolan (Clark, NJ/A.L. Johnson) with 1:20 on the clock.

Washington pushed the lead to 3-0 by scoring the first goal of the second quarter. Chris Read scored off an assist from sophomore attackman Mike Sutter (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) with 9:23 on the clock, but Brian Read answered with a goal off an assist from Ed Boyd at 6:38 to make it 3-1. Washington freshman midfielder Jaeke Donahue (Tiverton, RI/Wheeler School) extended the lead back to three goals 27 seconds later to make it 4-1 in favor of Washington. Chris Read ended the first-half scoring with a goal off an assist from junior midfielder Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME) with 5:04 remaining that made it 5-1.

The Shoremen ran the lead to seven goals as they put up the first three goals of the third quarter. Morrison scored 54 seconds into the period and freshman attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) found Chris Read for a pair of extra-man goals, with 13:00 and 6:01 on the clock, respectively, to make it an 8-1 game. Dickinson answered with a goal by Drew Peace off an assist from Brian Read at 3:26 and a goal by Brian Read at 2:43 to trim the lead to 8-3 after three quarters.

Brian Read opened the fourth-quarter scoring for the Red Devils with an unassisted goal with 9:09 remaining, cutting the lead to 8-4. Peace kept the Dickinson surge going with an unassisted goal of his own with 8:28 to play to make it 8-5. Chris Read ended the Red Devil run with a goal off a feed from Sutter with 3:11 on the clock to put the game away.

Morrison, who scored two goals, was the only Shoreman besides Chris Read to get on the board more than once. Sutter and Kielek each notched two assists for Washington.

Brian Read led Dickinson with three goals and one assist, while Peace added two goals.

Washington was 12-for-18 on face-offs in the game as freshman midfielder Thayer Damm (Huntington Valley, PA/LaSalle) went 7-for-10. The Shoremen also held a 44-31 advantage in shots and a 32-24 edge in ground balls in the game.

The Shoremen will play second-ranked host Gettysburg in Sunday's Centennial Conference Championship game at 1:00 p.m. The Bullets bested Haverford, 12-7, in today's other semifinal.
